Peter Smith

Peter has always been interested in martial arts from a young age, from being inspired by Bruce Lee movies. It took a long time for Peter to pluck up the courage to attend a class. It was four years ago when he was approached by a past instructor of Defence Lab, asking if he has ever seen ‘Batman Begins’ and did he knew who has taught Batman! The rest was history.
Peter went to a free trial session where he was made to feel very welcome by the other students and instructors. After the first session, he was hooked and this was something that he had never seen before, the system was intriguing and thought provoking.
It has been a year now since being taught by Paul the Lead instructor, when Paul asked if Peter would like to become a CIT instructor. Peter was honoured that he thought he was ready to embark on the next stage of his martial arts journey. He really enjoys welcoming new students to the classes and making them feel relaxed and nothing is unachievable within this system.
Peter believes that Defence Lab is for any walks of life whether you have had years of experience within martial arts or as a beginner. This program has helped Peter grew with confidence in the knowledge that he would be able to defend himself in most situations that he may had to encounter in. He has became a lot fitter during his time in Defence Lab Swindon. The classes we teach, helps our students to have a healthier and more active lifestyle.
Peter's goal for all the students is to ensure they get the best out of themselves and gain confidence in their abilities.
He is an exceptionally brilliant at running kids classes ensuring they get full training potential while having loads of fun!

Mike Wright

Assistant Instructor

Mike has studied martial arts since the age of 9. His journey began in Tae Kwon Do where he spent 5 years of training. Mike then moved on to study 4 years of Wing Chun in which he learnt a lot about martial arts as an industry and himself. However, Mike departed from this system to seek more. Mike found Krav Maga in Swindon where he trained for 1 year and again he decided seek more.
In September 2017, Mike came across Defence Lab and learnt this incredible, ballistic system that was promoted. Paul guided Mike for approximately 6 months before he felt the need to progress in this system. Mike began training as a CIT in March 2018, where he has learnt even more about the self defence industry in addition to things about himself.
Mike aims to progress through the instructor ranks up to ‘Manager Instructor’ where he will hopefully run his own school to offer more to population in his home town.
Martial arts and self defence has taught Mike to be disciplined, respect others, be nice, humble and work hard in order to achieve your goals. In addition, his communication, confidence, and ability to avoid conflict has developed as Mike has progressed in all areas of self defence.
Mike thanks Paul and Defence Lab for enabling him to better in himself in every aspect of the manner.

Libby Whatley

CIT Instructor

Martial arts hasn't always been on top of Libby's interest list, however after finding defence lab, her boys started to train, Libby quickly took an interest to it. Libby was offered a free trial and did a few classes even as a female and was made to feel welcome by all other students and instructors and so she quickly signed up.
After a short time she started helping with the kids classes and really enjoyed it, with a background in childcare and kids entertainment, Libby fit right in.
Defence lab Swindon really is for anyone, it has already helped her with her goals, fitness and confidence. Libby likes to help more people believe in themselves and reach their goals, especially for women.
Libby was asked if she like to become a CIT instructor and would be an amazing to carry her journey to another level, teaching others that can reach their own potential. This training is great fun and also very rewarding.
She also hope with being a female instructor, more women will feel more comfortable joining Defence Lab Swindon and running ladies only classes for those who prefer that kind of environment.
